Synchromesh is similar to a modern manual gearbox, with cones helping to align the gears between changes, ie an advancement from the more primitive crash box
In Barry Foster's excellent article on gearboxes he writes regarding the synchromesh version - "The ratios are different and it makes a good trials gearbox!"
Wolseley synchro examples seem only to come with a 9 spline input shaft and longer bell housing but the Minor example is almost a straight replacement for the M.G. J gearbox (though longer) and can be built up with an M.G. rear casting with a vertical speedometer drive outlet.
J2913 has a Minor rear casting with provision for mounting a handbrake lever which is useful for an M-type.
If an original gearbox is not available is there perhaps a good case to be made for a synchromesh box ?
But did you know that we knew that you knew and knowing that, we secretly pretended that we didn't know that you knew so thus you don't have have a leg to stand on that we can pull.
Hi Brian - and others. Yes, all 11 MMMs are known to the register (4 J2s, L1, 4 PAs, 2 PBs). Project has started; I'll write some notes on it to update everyone later in the year.
