What thickness plywood are people using for the flooring of their P types ? My existing plywood appears to be 5/16" but for me ( I could afford to loose a few pounds) seems a little flimsy. Thanks, Dan
The plywood which I used is about 3/8". I suspect that this is thinner than the original and possibly thinner than most others but I find it perfectly satisfactory.
Just measured my definitely original ones & was trying to get my head around 13/32 inch when I realised that's 10mm. Shouldn't have thought it was available in UK in the '30s! It always seemed strong enough to me & after all they are supported longitudinally along both sides by the body & the shaft tunnel supports & in the middle by the chassis side rail. Very small unsupported span.
When I replaced mine I used 3/8th marine ply. I can't see why you should worry about being flimsey as you don't stand up in a PA! You sit in the door and swing your legs in, so unless you have very very heavy feet with lead boots on your very very heavy feet can't see the problem!
Rodney PS if you are very overweight I doubt you could get into a PA, so perhaps that's a fail safe system built in!
I haven't a P-type but I was thinking of buying some marine ply for my 2 D's and F2. Doesn't anyone have a rough idea what oblong size wood I need as a minimium i.e would 2 x 2' x 8' be good enough?
Do we recommend putting rubber or neoprene on the chassis connections to the boards too?
