This car was owned by a dear friend when he lived in the UK - the photo is probably from sometime in the 1950s. What details he remembered were: K-type chassis, custom body (maker unknown) and Riley engine. The 1934 date I'm assuming relates to the chassis, and other parts could come from any time leading up to the early '50s. Just wondering if anyone knows of this car and if it survives?

If you put the Registration Number JB 1272 into the site's search at the top of the page it discusses this car and gives the chassis number

Thank you gentlemen. I didn’t think to check “MGs on Patrol” but indeed it is listed and partially in a photo - wow!

The chassis file shows JB 1272 to be K0266 which was a pillarless saloon Registered to the MG Car Company as a demonstrator. The file also shows the car was fitted with a replacement block in 1934!! Obviously the potential customers wanted to know how fast the car went.

There is no news of the car having survived. Shame.

Pete and Forum:

There must be more of a story to this car.
Custom body, Riley engine and a police connection.
Plus the added pillarless saloon demonstrator added by George Eagle via chassis files.
What happened next?
All the best.

This topic has prompted me to dig out photos of YS5989, PB0579, taken at Silverstone in 1991. As you can see, it has a rather neat conversion to a Riley 1.5 engine, with interesting detailing. I see from the register that it has been owned since 1999 by Geoff Smith. He may be interested in these photos, taken a few years before his ownership. Feel free to add them to the database if wanted.
