Just found this image on the Shetland Archives website. Apparently taken in Sept 1976 at Sumburgh Airport.

Ah, couldn't upload the photo, so placing a link to the page instead.

Peter, my 2014 Register shows it as J2847. Last heard of in Aberdeen. My 1993 Scottish Register shows engine number 1596AJ, but curiously the 2014 Register shows 18252B, and the online version shows 1600AJ.

Certainly some coincidence - or similar - going on here, because AMY 590 is associated in our records with J2847 and J2848! According to the Factory records the reg was originally given to J2848 although Mike Hawke's book lists it as AKJ 353 - a reg that it may have acquired subsequently. Mike reported that the car achieved a 2nd class award in a 1934 Kentish Border CC Trial. He also reportd that at the time of writing (2007) the car was with Samuel Borg in the USA

We haven't heard much about J2847 since 1968. That car is still said to have its original reg of APB 814 although the AMY 590 reg is alluded to as well!

Perhaps our J2 registrar John Emmett can add light?

Colin,

As Dick has mentioned the Factory files say that J2848 was originally issued with Registration Number AMY 590.

Definitely this is J2847, the owner was posted to Shetland at that time.

AMY 590 was originally issued to J2848, but that has carried AKJ 353 since returning from the USA, possibly in 1982 but certainly since 2008.
