Recently, a friend asked about the blue Stiles-bodied F Type on the Queen Mary picture from Dave's (OZ34) post above. Here is a more clear picture of the MG and the license plate is DPP 171. Is it known to the register and has it survived?
There is a pale blue Stiles with a similar registration number, MG1771 which might be the inspiration for this picture. It has the same windscreen configuration as the painting which is different from most other Stiles (wipers at the top and Morris style bottom windscreen supports) but grey trim though.
I wonder if the registration letters DPP actually exist, PP was Luton...
There are two Stiles bodied Fs in the US. I believe one of them may have been at the GOF West at the Queen Mary in Long Beach a few years ago. However, neither carry that registration number. F0948 is MG1624 (pictured)and F0732 is YG 605. The latter is a west coast car and may have been at that event.
Look no further than the Aug/Sept Bulletin No. 104 for an article on F0948, registration MG1624.
The small photo on page 19 sure looks like the paint booth in fellow MMM owner Jim Perman's shop. I believe it was this car that I saw in Jim's shop many years ago prior to it being restored and that photo being taken. I need to contact Jim to be sure. I know Jim also worked on Malcom Appleton's J1 a number of years ago.
I have had this 5 ft x 2 ft picture on my lounge wall for about 40 yrs. Looking at this thread prompted me to look at the forum information to see if the registration JP 1475 was actual to a K3. The registration JB 1475 belongs to K3003, perhaps a bit of copy rite issue? K3003 has quite a bit of provenance being driven by Nuvolari in 1933 and other events through the years.
