In my quest for a suitable car to go racing with the Triple-M boys next season, I wonder if anyone here may know of any cars languishing in garages, possibly belonging to retired racers? ... or maybe cars that are just not used enough any more?
I have spoken with Duncan Potter and some of the other regular racers and the sensible conclusion is that the proven, robust, lightweight P type would seem to be the way to go, maybe a pointy tail P/Q … having said that I’m open to suggestions, but I do need 2 seats, lights and cycle wings so the car can be road registered to keep my racing options open.
I have also spoken to Oliver Richardson, James Gunn, and Chas Jones and asked them to keep an ear to the ground. I'm really not looking for a ground-up project but rather a car that may need recommissioning or refreshing, otherwise I stand no chance of getting out next season ;^)
I’m currently Hillclimbing with my ex.Tieche J2, which I bought from Phil Coombs, and did reasonably well last season, but the car is basically standard and ok with a short blast up a hill but not really up to the rigours of racing … it’s such a nice car with a nice bit of history and many original parts that I don't want to modify it for racing.
Any ideas or leads would be much appreciated! … please contact me on stvrees@icloud.com
Thanks!

Hello, Steve. This is a long shot but could be of help. The late John Goodacre raced a pointed tail P type years ago and before he passed on I saw this car literally boarded up in his garage, this would be about 8 to ten years ago. It looked an impressive car and to my knowledge could be still there, I haven’t heard of it’s sale. His home is/was in the Liverpool area but I can’t remember his address, others may know more. Hope it helps, you never know and it would be good to see the car again! Chris |

Another thought, Steve. It might be an idea to ask Ray Masters, he may know more as he also raced in the same period and also lives in the North West area. Chris |

Thanks Chris, I think John's P was a single seater?... unless I'm wrong?? I should have said I'm looking for a 2 seater with lights so can be road registered to give me more racing options ... thanks!

Ha! .. nothing against 2 bearing engines Onno, Js or Ds .... I could even put up with a C Type if you have a spare one!
I am keeping an eye on the usual online sites and did have a chat to John Seber about his fresh L Type ... it was in the tent at MG100. At 1350cc I think it's too much of a beast for my limited (!) experience, so probably sticking to 4 cylinders for the foreseeable.
If you do hear of anything in Holland please do let me know ... the advertised Q Rep by Gregory is more than I need; a stripped out P/Q with std box is fine ... also can't get the chassis/registration/register numbers to tally, but not really surprised
Are you at Mallory?
Cheers! Steve

Just for context, a J chassis is lighter, 2 main bearings give less frictional loss and an AA head gives superb torque so a D type must be the best option and it is only my driving that keeps it back……

No Mallory for me this year just Angouleme in September.
It does seem that PB0358 is a different car so not sure if they messed up on the register nr. Happy to ask and check if needed. And that 1350 6 cylinder can always (temporarily) be tamed with a throttle stop to allow your experience to catch up to the potential

Hi Steve, what modifications would you have to make to make it race worthy? I don’t think your J2 is that different to my PA?
As an aside, what happened to Andrew Long’s N Type that was being advertised via Barry Walker. I don’t see it on Barrys website as sold or for sale…..

Hi Colin,
Many thanks, I did investigate that car at Sherwood some months ago but not for me I'm afraid.
Don't know about Andrew's car ... as you say, it's disappeared from BW's site ... maybe he's had a change of heart and is returning to MMM racing??
Will drop you an email ...
Thanks,

Steve, I should be a regular on the forum but ..... I see your post of last August looking for a suitable car to go Triple-M racing with. We need to find good homes for our TWO P-types located in Massachusetts, USA. I will post details on the "Cars for Sale" topic asap. Peter Ross J2594, PA0251, PA0255, TC2594. TC8892

Thanks Peter, but all sorted now :-) Recently acquired PA0888 from MD-C (our new Competition Secretary ) and now tucked up in my garage awaiting next season’s adventures!
