Will I find any markings on axles for MMMs that would identify them to a specific model or chassis number? I've just acquired the remnants of an L1, without chassis or body. I know the original chassis number, have not yet looked at the engine number or the gearbox number. Thanks in advance for pointers. Once I get it all sorted out I will send updated info to the L Registrar.

Hi Tom,
On the top of the pumpkin you should find some stamped numbers.
Twin breather P types had a 165 product code, single crank case breather N Types would have a 134 product code as shown in the attached. The number 367 suggests this then comes from an early N Type. For the rest of the variants I'm sure, others will chime in.
Apologies for the size of the attached image, all attempts to reduce it's size failed.

Tom up there by the freezing lake...
If you are going to need a new chassis, The Trumans in Idle near Bradfor made my replacement F one and I would recommend them.
The axles possibly had different part numbers depending on model, not sure, but I think. someone will know.
Cheers
P

Thanks Peter. I’m familiar with Russ Truman’s chassis work. Excellent!

When visiting Russ (who straightened my J2 chassis) I drove through Idle and was delighted to see the "Idle Men's Club"

Hi Tom,
Just to clarify, on my N Type rear axle with number 367, this does not relate to the chassis number in any way but only to the rear axle number.

In the old printed registers the first few pages had the number markings of axles etc. Helps you identifying what car the spares might be for as without a knuckle you’ll never have the car
