This was taken at Silverstone in the late 60's or early 70's. The car was as I understand was built and raced by Nigel Musselwhite. The four upright gentlemen L to R are Colin Tieche, Roger Cadogan, Phillip Bane-Powell and Nigel Musselwhite. Can any one put a bit more flesh on the details of the car and it's current situation and any more background would be helpful. The photograph was taken by Andrew Booth, who as Nigel is no longer with us. It was one of the visits where a group from the Salisbury area camped for the weekend and a certain Bruce Weston was very rude about my waterproofs that did make a very pronounced rasping noise when I walked but I wont elaborate on that story!

Roger, The records suggest that Nigel built this car on an un-numbered D type chassis.
The car was featured in the 1988/89 edition of the Yearbook - I don't have my copy to hand right now ....
The records also suggest that the car (assuming we are talking here about the same car) may have found its way to the Nasu Car Museum, Japan.

I believe the only part relating to the original car might have been the block? Nigel always raced the car in a very determined manner, and he was quick.
The car is in a Japanese museum where it might be listed as Ex120?

A tangled web. Nigel's original car, which he always called EX120 Replica (which as George says; may have had the original block, MBH notes state: block Ex 2M1675, crank/rods poss Ex EX120), reappeared several years after he sold it with a C Type body, claiming to be a C Type, then acquired the Reg RX7368 & another version of the EX120 body... Nigel later bought back his original body & it appeared on his last MMM car which he christened "Piglet" as it had a P Type engine/running gear. There was a rumour that the original "replica" was in the US mid 1990s having acquired FIA papers as EX120! I think the car in the advert Rich has posted may be Nigel's later car? |

The D Group's 'Dispatch 61'(see www.mgdgroup.org)summarises the story of the 2 EX120'Lookalikes' with pictures. The picture above is indeed D0460 currently in Sweden. The other, on an un-numbered D chassis, reputedly with a few bits of the original EX120 (mainly the block?) is in the Nasu Museum in Japan. |

Ted,
Dispatch 61 doesn't appear to be on the web site.

I believe there’s a new treatment available for that, Lew
But back to 'EX120'. The following letter from Nigel Musselwhite appeared in the November 1989 issue of Motor Sport

I’m pretty sure he did, Chris. Mistakes are not uncommon when you read old copies of Motor Sport with the benefit of modern information resources.
Nigel's letter had been printed alongside a splendid DSJ article about a chap creating a Bugatti from the cast off parts of one being restored and this is part of DSJ's response with his usual robust views on such matters!
