Could anyone help identify the car in the picture please, I think it is an MG SA Tickford coupe, not close to any of my MG books to check. Thank you David F0708/F1347

David, definitely Tickford and 99% sure VA. The SA did not carry its spare wheel in the wing and while the WA did, its front bumper had a dip in the middle.
Cheers,

Dave That picture is an SA. The WA had a distinct dip in the middle of its front bumper. My older sister's first husband had a Tickford SA with the spare wheel mounted on the front wing. I seem to remember it being called a Salmon-Tickford DHC. Not sure if that was in fact a different model. I think he sold it to a gentleman in Switzerland but I may be wrong. I have his copy of Blower that was originally with the vehicle. Nick |

This adjustment of the perspective might help.

Well, I did say 99% sure, and I stick by that. I find that Kevin's white car is registered with 2366cc so clearly indeed an SA. Unfortunately they know nothing of our subject car.
It is certainly the case that the vast majority of SAs, with any body style, have no side mount. It may be that the white car was so fitted by customer order or even later its life. Equally VA Tickfords (a trade name of Salmons of Newport Pagnell Nick), almost invariably do. The VA, particularly in its Tickford form, is a surprisingly imposing car and unfortunately the angle of this photo does not allow us to assess whether the car is 4 or 6 cylinder.
Given the above, on balance of probability, I would still go for VA.
Cheers,
Dave |

Just noticed another possible real anorak clincher.
The subject car has a starting handle hole in the bumper & Kevin's white one does not. A quick check of all the photos I have shows no hole for SAs but holes on all VAs.
Cheers,

And another for the detail spotters. The black car has two wing mounted spare wheels. You can just see the side mirror mounting onto another wheel n the offside The mirror is not attached to the windscreen |
