This car appears to have a modern clutch assembly now. Does anyone know which assembly, and given the alterations, should it be possible to refit an original clutch assembly, including flywheel?

You could give the MG workshop in Holland a call as I think they did the engine when it was in Holland.
I think the flywheel and clutch where a fine piece of engineering and reverting back might be a downgrade
