Can anyone help me identify the MGs in this photograph of the T.R. Page showroom on the back cover of the latest issue (M 154) of the Vintage Minor Register magazine?

At first, I thought it showed an M-type Sportsman’s Coupe like mine (1931). However, it did not seem likely that these were still for sale in 1935. I then realized that it must be a later car, like a PA Airline Coupe (and its price, at £350, seems to fit).

It’s remarkable how this foreshortened view of the 1935 car, which hides its length, accentuates its lineage. Can anyone identify the cars in the photograph? Does anyone have a better copy so we can read the description?

The Page garage has now been demolished but there's a photograph of it in 1961 on the Bexhill 100 Motor Club website (http://www.bexhill100mc.co.uk/mini-50years/4552672373)

Roger,

The car in the foreground is definitely NOT an Airline Coupe, as it has 4 cathedral windows in the sliding roof, whereas an Airline Coupe has only 3. I believe it may be an L1 Continental Coupe. I do believe, however, that the third car back is an Airline Coupe.

I agree with Lew, the first car is an L type and the third is an Airline whilst the middle car is an NA 2 seater.

Sounds right the two cars at the front have twelve inch brakes, so that rules out earlier models.

If I remember correctly, the L1 Continental Coupé was one of Kimber's less fortunate ideas, so it is perfectly possible that one would still be for sale new in 1935.

1935?
Showroom?
Bexhill?

Logic says they will all be brand new latest models - Ps and Ns....

even the 2-tone ones at the end... but no dark bonnets there...

And isn't the shape of the front wing on the last but one car a bit strange?

Whose cars started their life in Bexhill in 1935?

Cheers

P

I have a nice copy of this photograph in the form of a large 8-1/2 inch x 5-1/2 inch post card.

This is the back side of the card

Could the car behind the Airline conceivably be a University Motors N Type Drophead Coupe?

I see what you mean Dave; with the hood in "coupé de ville" position.
