I think it is Patrick Gardner in his youth before he lost his hair. |

Looks very showbiz to me - is that Billy Cotton's K3 by any chance? I know it isn't Billy Cotton, I don't think he ever had any hair, never mind a barnet like that!

I dont think this is the Billy Cotton car - that was fitted with a much lowered bodyline and was always dark coloured.
I wonder if the car is the Menier car? - the man looks rather like Antoine Menier (apologies for the spelling).
Are you sure that this picture isnt a Q type?
Regards David I dont think the body is standard though (if it is a K3) - the radiator cowling and position of the fuel filler look wrong. Also the shape of the bonnet too.

Looks like it could be K3031 but where?
If so, the gentleman could be either Hertzburger or Herkulyens, but my guess would be the latter, as the chap in the photo has similar cheekbones/features to a photo I've seen (which is referenced as being Herkulyens). There are however a few subtle differences to the bodywork from other contemporary photos of 031.
But..... K3030 was also fitted with a single filler tank.
How the brain hurts by wednesday afternoons!

Is that the entire photo or has it been cropped? I believe that I have seen a similar photo, but showing the entire car. I cannot recall at the moment the exact details though. From what source is the photo? This might jog my memory. |

Here is the picture in its entirety, I had cropped it so that it showed the driver in more detail. I suspect now you can see the whole car it will change people’s ideas as to which car it is.
As a supplementary question does anyone know where the picture was taken?
Peter.

The car is almost certainly K3015, and it could just be JHT sitting in it, although I have never seen a picture of him sporting face fungus... the moustache was popular in the mid-thirties, though.

I do not think it is JHT Smith, here is a picture of him in 1938

The aero screen is cracked and the bonnet fit is poor and it looks damaged, the car looks generally careworn, suggesting to me that this might be later than Smith or Cotton, who presumably had a bob or two to fix these things...

Coming rather late to this as I know nothing, I have however noticed our friend has a central parting. This is not particularly common so may trigger someone's memory?

Is this a trivia question or no one actually knows who it is? |

1. If it's 015 it must be sometime in 1936 as the body has already been altered & lowered, but can't be 1937 season or later as 015 was in s/s form.
2. The photo looks very "English", so if 004 post body-swap, it's likely to have been taken between 1937 & 1951. As Graham says, it's looking rather "careworn", so very likely post Billy Cotton. Does anyone have a photo of H.Stuart-Wilton, "Mr May", or any of the staff at Rowland Motors?
3. Of course, it could just be a friend of any of the owners posing for a photo!

No this is not a trivia question. The owner of the picture sent it to me asking if I knew who the person sitting in the driver's seat was and also where the picture was taken. I do not know the answers so I am hoping someone might know them.
Peter.
