Hope this is entered under the correct heading.
Enclosed is a photograph of a D type I owned in 1972. The car registration number was MG 1761 and I have no reason to believe it to be other than the original number.
Also shown is my advertisement for sale of the car in Motor Sport of July, 1972.

I believe that the registration number is now on an N type. If the owner of the D type would like to contact me I will pass on the photograph.( I don’t know what the car chassis number was)

Chris, what a nice memory!

It's D0366 and the reg is now on NA0817.

Ted Hack is our D type registrar and it seems that the D is now with Mike Schmit in Luxembourg, with only a phone number as the contact point. I am sure he'll be able to gather more info!

As far as we know the N type is now in Hong Kong - they do get around, don't they?!

One of the joys of Motor Sport magazine in those days was the complete randomness of the 'For Sale' advertisements, well illustrated in Chris's photo. This was the ad in December 1972 issue for my J2. Spot the deliberate mistake anyone?

Thanks, Dick and Simon.
I hope Ted can trace Mike, it would be interesting to hear more about the car.

I’m pleased to say I have made contact with Mike and I have passed the picture onto him.
He sent a couple of pictures of his car as it is now and it is in magnificent condition.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

Good morning, Simon.

We are still waiting to hear what the ‘deliberate mistake’ is in your Motor Sport advertisement!!

Many thanks,
Chris

Good morning, Chris. The deliberate mistake was the lack of dialling code for the phone number. I rang the offices of MotorSport and found out it was a Leeds number and naturally enough the seller, Ted Hardy, was surprised to get my call. It turned out that the 1933 car was indeed my father's car and I paid £150 for the pile of bits, including most of an engine. This is how it came home in January 1973.

Thank you, Simon.

How very fortunate to get the car back in the family !
That picture conjures up many past memories of buying MGs in bits !

Cheers,
Chris

Is a dialling code an area code? And why would Ted Hardy deliberately not put it in his ad?
